Documenting the Journey
One of the biggest mistakes that we made early on at FSPS is not documenting the journey. So here in our third year we are snapshotting and blogging what is going on.
Year Level Meetings
So one of the best things about working with this dynamic staff is the level of questioning, professionalism and clarifying that these guys do.
Mitch and I decided to make an agenda for covering Year Level meetings. This made it easier to cover the things we needed to cover.
This week we looked specifically at spelling scores, the way we teach spelling, how we look at what is working in the word. Mitchell modelled the process of breaking words up into their sounds using graphs and digraphs to identify what is working in the word.
The conversations that we had around whether or not teachers needed more repetitions, more explicit instruction, more practice time, less words and the way that this impacts on spelling scores was just so powerful.
